The Ruin is a Tabletop RPG set in a Post-Apocalyptic Dystopian America. A place of gangs, tribes and survivors. The premise behind the game is one of survival and rebuilding in a world of violence. Characters will craft new weapons by collecting salvage and finding what they need in ruins. They will trade and barter with other settlements whilst building their own settlements and bases.
Characters Players will be able to choose from a number of archetypes which in turn will unlock their backgrounds, these archetypes will range from Mercs to hunters.
The World The setting is America and the core book will concentrate on 3 locations in that world these are Denver, Chicago and Seattle. Each city will be unique and where the characters start will determine how gritty the game is. Each of the cities will be connected in ways that will allow the characters to move between them.
The Capital This is home to the new Government which is based in an airport. This location will have a form of law, money and all the other things that come with a society. Whether these new laws etc are accepted by the population is up to the GM, but there will be rules allowing characters to rise up anti-gov rebels or be involved in pro-gov factions.
The Loop The Loop is now controlled by various gangs, some of them friendly and some of them not. This will allow characters to work with the gangs or against them, aid the new government in establishing laws in The Loop or aid settlers to rebuild and fight back.
The Loopers will be a gang in The Loop which the characters will end up dealing with, in one way or another.
Mercy Island Mercy Island will be a city of trade, again controlled by gangs but far away from government control. The city will run under a volatile trust system encouraging traders and caravans to come to the market on Mercy Island. This will be a place of relative calm which seems to have a bubbling undercurrent of violence that could explode at anytime.
Threats The wastelands and ruins will hold many dangers in the form of tribals, raiders and 'breds amongst many others, and the characters will need to learn the enemies ways and means in order to overcome and survive.
Raiders Are the most common and often the more technically savvy of the threats, they will often have settlements and hideouts across the wasteland and in some cases be willing to trade or hire the characters.
Tribals These follow the old ways or are raiders that have just gone native. More dangerous then the raiders as they will not negotiate and often will attack parties for food as much as the gear they are carrying.
'Breds Crawling from prepper shelters after decades of inbreeding and cannibalism came the 'breds, twisted, stunted monsters, who scavenge the wastelands for whatever they can eat. often staying in the dark places, the night is their time to leave their subways and sewers and hunt.
